The internal one excludes the release of radioactive substances into the environment. The external and internal containments serve as physical protection against natural and man-caused external influences, including earthquakes and hurricanes.
Belarusian NPP with two WWER-1200 reactors with a total capacity of 2,400 MW is being built in Ostrovets. For the first NPP in Belarus, the Russian 3+ generation project has been selected, which fully complies with international standards and recommendations of the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) on safety.
