This year, as part of the planned maintenance campaign at the nuclear power plant, scheduled maintenance of the first power unit began almost immediately after the second power unit was connected to the network following the completion of scheduled maintenance and its return to nominal capacity.
This approach will ensure an efficient work schedule for repair personnel and the execution of necessary technological operations within the timeframes established by regulations.
One of the key stages of the work will be the reloading of nuclear fuel in the reactor core, replacing some of the spent fuel assemblies. During the scheduled preventive maintenance of Unit 1, diagnostics and maintenance will be performed on over 10,000 units of process systems and equipment—reactor, turbine, electrical, ventilation, automation, and measurement devices. In addition, operational inspection of the metal and welded joints will be performed.
Scheduled preventive maintenance at each power unit of Belarusian NPP is carried out once a year to ensure reliable operation and maintain the main technical characteristics of technological systems and equipment.
Scheduled maintenance at nuclear power plants is a common practice worldwide. Their duration can vary depending on the scope and complexity of the work performed.
The first power unit of Belarusian Nuclear Power Plant was commissioned on June 10, 2021, and has generated over 37 billion kWh of electricity.
