Belarus became the first foreign site where the state corporation Rosatom built a nuclear power plant with pressurized water reactors (VVER) of generation 3+ with improved safety characteristics. Nuclear power units have been built according to the reference design in Russia, and are planned for commissioning in Egypt, Turkey, Hungary, and Bangladesh.
“Peaceful atom provides the production of more than 10% of the world’s electricity. In total, about 440 power units are in operation. Last year alone, 6 new reactors were launched. According to the latest IAEA forecast, by 2050 the capacity of nuclear power plants in the world will more than double, to 890 GW", - Viktor Karankevich clarified. “Bulgaria, Latvia, Poland, France, the Czech Republic, Switzerland and others have announced their intentions to build nuclear power plants. Most recently, 12 European states took the initiative to create an industrial alliance for those interested in small modular nuclear reactors."
