The Ministry of Energy and TVEL plan to expand cooperation

Written by Ministry of Energy of the Republic of Belarus

A corresponding agreement was reached today at a meeting between the Minister of Energy Viktor Karankevich and a delegation from TVEL  headed by its president Natalya Nikipelova.

The parties discussed the main areas of cooperation, as well as prospects for the implementation of new joint projects.

Belarus and TVEL have a significant potential for expanding partnership. "And this is not only interaction in radioactive waste management, but also related promising industries where the company has unique experience and high competencies," the Minister specified.

By joint efforts, serious work has been done to prepare documents that are strategic for the nuclear industry of our country - the national strategy for radioactive waste management, the concept for decommissioning Belarusian NPP, and the project for the construction of a national radioactive waste storage facility.

Last year, a number of important meetings of Belarusian delegation with representatives of TVEL enterprises took place, including at the level of the Deputy Minister of Energy Mikhail Mikhadyuk. New promising areas of cooperation have been outlined, including on ensuring a balanced nuclear fuel cycle, the task of which is the efficient management of spent nuclear fuel and the rational use of its reprocessing products.

TVEL's innovative proposals in this area are based on the most advanced technologies. These are new opportunities for the development of nuclear energy, which secure the production of clean energy without leaving a nuclear legacy for future generations.

Equally important for Belarusian side is the joint training personnel in radioactive waste management. The parties plan to develop a roadmap for cooperation in this area with the inclusion of specific enterprises and research institutes of the company.

As part of today's meeting, the possibilities of interaction with the company in introducing additive technologies, supplying energy storage systems, applying modern solutions for the digitalization of the industry and others were also discussed.

As Natalya Nikipelova emphasized, cooperation with Belarus is developing dynamically, while at the same time, TVEL is ready to offer new promising innovative projects to its Belarusian partners.

TVEL JSC is a part of the Rosatom State Corporation and is the sole integrator of  Russian nuclear industry for the decommissioning of nuclear facilities and radioactive waste management. It is one of the world's largest producers of nuclear fuel.

TVEL nuclear fuel is used by nuclear power plants in 14 countries - this is every 6th power reactor, as well as in foreign research reactors. TVEL JSC delivers nuclear fuel to BelNPP.
