BelNPP received the seventh communication line with the power system

Written by BelTA

Belarusian NPP received the seventh connection with the energy system of Belarus - the high-voltage power transmission line BelNPP - Ross was connected, BelTA learned from the media sector of Belenergo State Production Association.

The line with a length of 250 km connected the high-voltage switchgear of Belarusian NPP with the 330 kV Ross substation, ensuring further transmission of energy from the NPP to the western part of the republic's power system. This is the longest overhead transmission line 330 kV in the energy system of Belarus.

The equipment of the switchgear at BelNPP associated with this power line, and the equipment of the power line itself are now in the comprehensive testing mode. “Switching on the high-voltage line BelNPP - Ross will ensure optimal power system modes both before and after the commissioning of the power units of the Belarusian NPP,” explained Belenergo.

As previously reported, 6 overhead power transmission lines were switched on earlier, providing communication between the NPP and power facilities of the backbone network of Belarus (330 kV substations). These power lines are provided with reliable protection against various types of short circuits.

"In the process of switching on the high-voltage power lines connecting Belarusian NPP with the power system, the dispatcher personnel, together with specialists from the regime services, relay protection and other services, solved complex, including non-standard tasks. Temporary power lines were made, characteristics and settings of relay protection were recalculated for reliable operation of the power system under conditions of constant changes. All this was done in order to meet the quality standards of power supply to consumers while observing the optimal operating modes of the power system," Belenergo explained.

Belarusian NPP with two VVER-1200 reactors with a total capacity of 2,400 MW is being built according to the Russian NPP-2006 project near Ostrovets, Grodno Oblast. The general contractor is the state corporation Rosatom. The power start-up of the first power unit is scheduled for November 7, 2020. The commissioning of the second power unit is scheduled for 2022.
