BelNPP will open new opportunities for the development of electric transport - Karankevich

Written by BelTA

Belarusian nuclear power plant will open up new opportunities for the development of electric transport. Energy Minister Viktor Karankevich said this today during the Day of Electric Transport in the China-Belarus industrial park Great Stone, BelTA has learned.

"The head of state made decisions to stimulate the use of electric transport, develop electric charging infrastructure. All this has already created the basis for the successful promotion of electric vehicles in the domestic market, as well as new jobs, and the creation of more comfortable living conditions for the country's citizens," Viktor Karankevich said. The commissioning of Belarusian nuclear power plant will open up new opportunities for the development of the industry. It is a reliable and clean source of energy in our country, which will create an incentive for the development of not only electric transport, but also science, medicine, and industry in general. This is the introduction of new technologies into the economy."

"We already have a positive trend in electricity consumption for the purpose of electric charging of transport. If in 2019 this figure was 3.8 million kWh, then in the first quarter of this year - 2 million kWh. In general, by the end of the year we expect to reach 12 million kWh. Consumption growth will more than triple compared to last year," he explained.

According to the minister, the head of state clearly noted that electric transport is the future: according to international agencies, by 2040, a third of the world's total vehicle fleet will be powered by electricity." The use of electric transport means both the reduction of harmful emissions into the atmosphere, and the improvement of the urban environment, and the improvement of road safety, therefore the development of this segment is an important priority for Belarus," the minister added.

Viktor Karankevich also thanked the administration of the Great Stone Industrial Park and Chinese partners for their support in arranging the Electric Transport Day. "This is the first time such an event is being held at the site of the Great Stone Chinese-Belarusian Industrial Park. I hope it will become a good tradition in the future," he stressed.
