The facility is being introduced in stages, the first stage - in February: three buildings were opened, 13 departments began to work, five of which are inter-regional, with 232 beds. Two more buildings will be commissioned in June. In total, the hospital will have 16 departments, including inter-regional and even inter-oblast, with 382 beds.
“In Grodno oblast, the healthcare system is being prospectively modernized, centers are being created for high-quality and affordable medical care for the population. They are placed in such a way that it is as convenient as possible for all residents of the oblast to get close to them. Such centers are Grodno, Lida, Slonim, Volkovysk and, of course, Ostrovets," Victor Pranyuk said. He emphasized that high-tech equipment is being concentrated in hospitals in these cities, highly qualified specialists are working, inter-regional departments are being created to provide this or that assistance at the highest level. Ostrovets hospital, in particular, has become a resource center for patients from nearby regions of Grodno, Minsk and Vitebsk oblasts. Its construction was also significant from the point of view of increasing the number of residents of Ostrovets and the region associated with the commissioning of BelNPP.
The clinic today is a resource inter-regional center for providing medical care to patients with acute cerebrovascular accident, as well as acute coronary syndrome, which often precedes myocardial infarction. When the second stage is launched, it is planned to open an inter-regional trauma center, a perinatal center of the second level, and also an inter-regional infection department.
They built a hospital on an individual project. The cost amounted to about Br127 million, more than Br27 million of which was directed to the acquisition of about 5.000 units of equipment. In terms of technical equipment, Ostrovets hospital is the most equipped regional hospital in Grodno oblast.
"The clinic today has a good diagnostic base. In particular, the most up-to-date computed tomography and magnetic resonance imaging. By the way, Ostrovets became the first regional center where the MRI device appeared. There are modern x-ray equipment and other necessary equipment," the head physician of Ostrovets Central Region Clinical Hospital Vladimir Mozheiko noted. He emphasized that the base of the hospital makes a full range of diagnostic, treatment and rehabilitation measures for people of any age.
A lot of attention was paid to the staff. Today, Ostrovets hospital can be called one of the youngest: more than 100 young doctors, middle and technical staff joined the team. “It turned out to be a kind of fusion of youth and experience. Specialists were trained in the departments of medical universities of the country, trained in leading clinics. It was important that from the first days our employees were ready to work in new conditions, on new equipment, at a new level,” Vladimir Mozheiko said. He emphasized that experienced specialists from Grodno, Minsk, and other cities moved to the new hospital for permanent work. For many, relocation is associated with opportunities for professional and career growth.
The housing problem is also being solved in Ostrovets. As the head doctor said, in 2019, all young specialists were provided with housing. Soon, a 50-apartment building for doctors will be commissioned, the construction of another one begins. In addition, a new dormitory was built for health workers, as well as existing ones were reconstructed.
Victor Pranyuk noted that work on modernization of medical facilities will continue in the oblast. Last week, for example, a new computed tomography scanner was launched at a university clinic in Grodno. A similar device will be installed soon in Lida - reconstruction of the surgical complex of the regional hospital is ongoing there.
In the future, old buildings of Ostrovets Central Region Hospital will be reconstructed and redesigned into a polyclinic for 640 visits per shift.
