Written by BelTA

Belarus plans to receive two more IAEA missions before the launch of the nuclear power plant in Ostrovets region, Energy Minister Viktor Karankevich told journalists today, BelTA has learned.

The next mission is to analyze operational safety to assess the readiness for operation of a nuclear power plant (pre-OSART). "The pre-OSART mission of the IAEA is scheduled to begin on April 1, 2019, with official notification sent by the Ministry of Energy to the IAEA secretariat.", - Victor Karankevich said.

An integrated assessment mission for the development of a nuclear power infrastructure in phase III (INIR Phase III) is also foreseen. It is scheduled after the completion of a package of missions that are mandatory in accordance with the requirements of the IAEA for novice countries, some of which must be conducted by the Ministry of Emergency Situations. “So far there is no specific date for the second mission, but it is also planned,” the minister specified.

Belarusian NPP with two VVER-1200 reactors with a total capacity of 2400 MW is being built according to the Russian project near Ostrovets (Grodno oblast). The first power unit is scheduled to be commissioned in 2019, the second - in 2020.
