The event was held in the forest park zone of the city near the monument to Soviet soldiers and partisans. The meeting was opened by the chairman of Ostrovets region executive committee I.Shaludin. «This is a special, most revered holiday for every Belarusian, a truly national holiday with tears in their eyes. May 9 is an echo of the time, when in harsh conditions, step by step, people liberated their land from invaders. Our memory will forever fix the heroism of those who during the Great Patriotic War managed to withstand all the trials. 74 years ago, the Soviet people won the victory in the most terrible bloody war. And this day will forever remain the day of the great national achievement», – the head of the region noted in his speech.

During the event, a memorial plate was consecrated, with the names of the residents of the Ostrovetsregion who died on the fronts of the Great Patriotic War.

Also, the alley “Lilac of Victory” was planted during the meeting, which was attended by war and labor veterans, government officials, and public organizations. 

Representatives of labor collectives and organizations of Ostrovets region laid wreaths and flowers at the monument to the soldiers liberators.

The meeting ended with a solemn passage of military units, forces of the Ministry of Emergency Situations and the Ministry of Internal Affairs.
